About the song
To be fair: we are all investing much effort in building, retaining and protecting our comfort level. Much of our strategy and activities are geared towards building an enhanced comfort zone. This is of course fine, but at the same time the identical wall that we are building around our fragile self is soon emerging as a form of a self-made fortress, fencing us from all unexpected intrusions of destiny, but at the same time framing and imprisoning us in our own cage. This song is dedicated to Bill Watterson’s “Calvin and Hobbes” whose marvelous dialogue inspired us to the lyrics to this song. The starting point is a cartoon where Calvin builds a snow fortress around him to protect him from Hobbes’ snow-ball bombardments, all with the inevitable consequence of Calvin being trapped and imprisoned by his own action.
Lyrics
Here is the greatest fort ever
These are my massive walls
Built to protect me forever
A monument that will not fall
There is comfort in my loneliness
Please, get me out of my cage!
So much comfort in my loneliness
—
Get me out of my cage!
These are the tallest bars ever
This is my protective cage
Built to hide me forever
From my own violent rage
There is comfort in my loneliness
Please, get me out of my cage!
So much comfort in my loneliness
Please, get me out of my –
Get me out of my cage!
So much comfort in my loneliness
Please, get me out of my cage!
Get me out, out of my cage!
Do it now, here on this stage!
Feel my anger and suffer my rage!
Get me out – get me out of this cage!
Now that I have built my walls
How can I get out?
Wall so deep – can you hear me call?
Can you hear me shout?
There is comfort in my loneliness
Please, get me out of my cage
So much comfort in my loneliness
Get me out of my –
Get me out of my cage
